Alappuzha is home to the Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai Museum and Smriti Mandapam, which honours the late author and writer.

Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, a great litterateur Kerala is proud to have produced from this land, has greatly influenced in shaping the literary landscape of the state. The writings of Thakazhi offered new and complex viewpoints on the realities of working-class communities in India. 

Alappuzha is home to the Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai Museum and Smriti Mandapam, which honours the late author and writer. Thakazhi, a significant character in contemporary Malayalam literature, is renowned for his portrayals of the lives and sufferings of members of oppressed sections in his writings. Some of his famous works include ‘Kayar’, ‘Chemmeen’, ‘Randidangazhi’ and ’Thottiyude Makan’. He dealt with themes like caste, class and social justice in his works making a significant contribution to the understanding of these issues in Indian literature. He was also the recipient of the Jnanapeeth Award, India’s highest literary award for his contribution to Indian literature. 

The Thakazhi Museum showcases memorabilia and artefacts related to the life and work of Thakazhi, including photographs and manuscripts. The Smriti Mandapam is a hall where cultural and literary events like book launches, literary meetings and musical programs are held.
