It is said that prayers are our way to converse with the gods. That is why millions of devotees across the world pray on a daily basis at their favourite places of worship. In some worship centres, you might have a feeling of being connected to god in inexplicable ways; a feeling you might not have experienced in most other places. Neelamperoor Palli Bhagavathi Temple is one such shrine that is divine in so many ways. Located at Neelamperoor in the Alappuzha district, the temple has the goddess Karthiyayani as the principal deity.

Believed to be around 1700 years old,  Neelamperoor Palli Bhagavathi Temple is one of the remaining relics of the Buddhist culture in Kerala. The idol of the goddess is built using ‘panchaloha’. One of the most vibrant cultural festivals in Kerala is held in this temple annually – the Neelamperoor Padayani. Celebrated in the Malayalam month of Chingam (August-September), the uniqueness of the Padayani festival is the ‘Kettukazcha’, which is a splendid display if beautifully decorated effigies. This colourful procession of effigies includes mythological characters from Indian epics. This festival is attended by devotees and visitors alike who come from all parts of the world.
